Association of Domestic Work Employers
(in formation)

Give domestic workers fair working conditions!

Do you pay someone to clean your house, cook for you, take care of your children, or do other tasks? Then you know how essential housework is! And you’re an employer with employer responsibilities. You know that domestic workers often face poor working conditions and want to do the right thing. But how? How do you interact with each other? How much should you pay? How do you make arrangements? You’re not alone in asking these questions! That’s why the Association of Domestic Employers now exists—to share information, find practical solutions, and work towards recognition of domestic work.

Mission

We advocate for, and work towards, a fair and caring working environment within private households. The association supports employers of housecleaners, babysitters or nannies, caregivers, live-in workers, and other workers performing all types of domestic work, enabling them to fulfill their responsibilities and ensuring that they provide safe and fair workplaces. The association is committed to addressing structural disadvantages in the care and domestic sectors, preferably in alliances, and strives for the recognition of domestic work and for equal and institutional protection and accountability in the provision and receipt of care services. The association advocates for the interests of private employers of international domestic workers, who wish to employ domestic workers through regularisation.

Vision

The association envisions a society in which domestic work is fully recognized as essential to the functioning of families and the wider economy.

The association strives for a future in which:

  • Domestic workers are valued, respected, and equally compensated
  • Domestic work takes place within safe working environments
  • Employers are empowered to provide fair and responsible working conditions
  • Care and support services in private households are accessible and affordable for everyone
  • Legal employment is possible for international workers who provide care and support services, thereby giving recognition to the contribution they make and offering a formal alternative to the informal employment to which employers are compelled to engage due to legal and economic constraints.

About Us

We are an association in formation. We are working toward becoming an association that can play a role in social dialogue and in engaging with labor unions and the government. But we still have a long way to go!
